Interviewing Tips
Arrive five minutes early.
Dress professionally with hair styled conservatively
Bring a copy of your resume and references
Bring a writing utensil and paper to take notes
Answer questions positively
Know your desired salary
Do not discuss political beliefs, religious affiliation, or other personal information (also keep this off of your resume!!). Be careful about wearing items that reveal personal information (e.g. symbols of religious or sexual orientation).
Know why you are the best candidate for the position (e.g. discuss how your specific education and previous positions can benefit the employer).
Know about the organization PRIOR to the interview and be prepared to ask questions and show your related knowledge in other ways.
Use action words when describing your experience (e.g. achieved, developed, led, designed, or published).
Be a good listener and watch your body language
Make sure that you have a professional message on your answering machine or voice mail system if the employer calls to set up an interview or a follow-up meeting.
Smile and shake hands upon arrival and departure.
Send a thank you note or email within 24 hours of the interview.
