The course content will focus on increasing participant competency and knowledge in DBT areas not as commonly known to practitioners who've had some basic exposure to the modality. Content will include; modes and functions of DBT, stages and targets, pre-treatment checklist, setting up a diary card, shifting styles from reciprocal to irreverent, "thinking behaviorally," DBT case conceptualization, orienting and committing to phone coaching, conducting phone coaching, DBT consultation team, and overall DBT adherence. Teaching methods will include; didactic, role play, real play, break out rooms/discussions, short quizzes, pre-training case conceptualization form, day end quiz, and evaluation at the end of each day.
At the end of the training, participants will be able to: -Demonstrate understanding and beginnings of competency in modes of DBT besides skills coaching (individual therapy, phone coaching, consultation team) -Become familiar with and practice DBT pre-treatment procedures -Practice DBT case conceptualization in terms of stages, targets, controlling variables (through behavioral chain analysis), and specific plans to treat controlling variables -Think and act more dialectically, behaviorally, and with specificity and precision when it comes to treatment targets -Practice and increase comfort with stylistic shifts from reciprocal to irreverent and back again -Participate in a DBT consultation team meeting and identify consultation roles, function, and processes -Identify the difference between limits and boundaries and articulate when and how a DBT therapist goes about thinking about their own limits and that of colleagues. -Understand and articulate purposes of phone coaching. -Watch and role play phone coaching scenarios and identify helpful and unhelpful strategies. -Identify steps toward becoming a Linehan Board Certified therapist -Identify steps toward conducting comprehensive and adherent DBT in individual sessions and at agency level
