This presentation examines how Latino immigrants in Utah navigate acculturation within a dynamic state context. Grounded in social work and mental health principles, it layers theoretical frameworks with region-specific realities, including language access, education, healthcare navigation, housing, and intergenerational dynamics. Attendees will learn to recognize core cultural values and translate that understanding into culturally humble, trauma-informed practice through practical engagement strategies and case examples.

Learning Objectives — by the end of this session, participants will be able to:

• Apply acculturation theory to the lived experiences of Latino immigrant clients.
• Identify concrete barriers across language access, education, healthcare, and housing that affect this population.
• Integrate core cultural values into culturally humble, trauma-informed assessment, engagement, and intervention.

Presenter Bio

Dr. Dalanhese is a licensed clinical social worker with a Doctorate in Psychology (PsyD) and a Master of Social Work (LCSW) from the University of Utah. As a Latina originally from Brazil, she is passionate about culturally informed mental health care and has extensive experience serving minority, immigrant, and underserved communities. She is the founder and owner of a large multi-location private practice in South Jordan and Orem, where she oversees specialized programs and a team dedicated to clinical excellence and transformative care.
